Muay Thai Fundamentals

A bit of a history lesson first, I was the first from the UK to fight a Thai,

watch the video and see Thailand.

Some old footage about the country that created a sport I love, at 4.50min watch some Siamese boxing.

That was me giving it my all against Sombat from Thailand. My Second fight against Sombat is here.

Now you have seen what I do, I hope I can help you become a better martial artist or champion.

First things first, about Ronnie Green. I am a former champion of Thai boxing and Kick boxing. People call me a pioneer of both which is nice and I thank them. Secondly it is more important to be nice than to be important. Thailand recognised me for my achievements over the years and dedication to ring sports Thai and others, they made me a Master.

I do like all martial arts including mixed martial arts but my website is dedicated to Thailand. I am not an expert of throws locks holds etc. My achievements stand for themselves and this opportunity allowed me to get to the top and sit at the top table. Not to be important, but just to be helping others along their fascinating journeys. These pages and stories are here to help you explore the martial art of Muay Thai. Whether you only want to learn basic self defence or you want to be a top fighter in your chosen field.

Yes I harp on about Muay Thai was born on the battlefield, but there on the battlefield what worked helped you to survive. As for being a master, I am happy to be able to master my fears and phobias, more important though is the fact that Muay Thai traditions and methods will help any one become a better champion.

Inter-reactive training to build up your block and defence structure. Many martial arts are about learning to defend yourself. I have found that across the west Thai boxing seems to be taught mainly on the principals of aggression and attack. The things I witness in the west have nothing to with traditional Muay Thai and it's ring sport Thai boxing as it is known in the west. My inter-reactive systems helped me. Now are you ready to learn as I was taught?

These pages are only here to help you train better! You still need to find a competent instructor. This can be very hard to find!

I was lucky I guess, I found some - The Manchester Thai Masters from Thailand.

Remember to be a Thai boxer to me, means that you must have fought a real Thai, if not, then let me help you do that, and do it better and you can learn at home on line here on my website Ronniegreentv – The home of learning Muay Thai online.

Now enjoy the some fundamentals of Muay Thai with stories and video to help. By Ronnie Green.

Ram Muay

The Wai Khru is the ritual 3 bows fefore the Ram Muay dance.

The dance before the fight. Passed on from master to pupil, the pupil performs his dance according to the beliefs of his camp. Similar to the old days when a mongkok pointing up would signify that the nak Muay Thai fighters were from the northern part of Thailand like Chiang Mia and so on. The dance of the warrior before their fight helps to pay your respects and highlight areas of there camps history. Traditionally imagine a huge camp fire and audience and two fights competing under the moonlight, the crowds watching these warriors get ready to show their Muay Thai skills.

Yang Sam Khum

Yang Sam Khum – The three strides movement.

There is a story from Thai mythology and also related to Hinduism and India culture about the mythical god that’s could be wise and clever and very deceptive in movement. The story relates to good beating bad. The three strides movement techniques is about using simple movement to evade and conquer with vey little movement, so it looks as the story tells and in the ring if you practice to perfection in training then it will surely help pay off in the ring. As for rhythm and correct movement in relation to self defence, a much weaker victim can learn to develop movement in a more effective and deceptive manner and show less fear. Mythology relates to these concepts and this is why Thai boxers from Thailand start at the very front, first thing first and progress one step at a time. First things first then is that the music and rhythm help you to be confident in your dance. As a beginner your are never sent out to the battlefield straight way, a good general or instructor would take hi time preparing his army, not send the beginners out to fight for the land or crown, now its belts for fighters and confidence those that want to walk a safer street.

Defence

Martial arts is about defending yourself according to the traditions of your homeland and its ways army’s weapon and terrain. Martial Arts.

Let’s concentrate on sports martial arts derived from the battlefield of Siam and Asia.

Karate from Japan is the unarmed combat - open hand. A defence system used to protect you without weapons, you only use your limbs, hands elbows, empty just you.

If it’s just you alone then you are either hitting them or they are hitting you. If you compete part of that way or codec of honour is that you must fight and it helps in points system if you do strike your competitor, it’s OK they both agree to the rules of combat and competition. Por Paramuk was great in K! not as many elbows and knees, he was more suited to that system as opposed to Muay Thai – otherwise he would have dominated Thailand’s national sport.

Strikes

My philosophy relating to my martial arts career not just Thai boxing in the ring has been influenced by may people. Bruce Lee to me was ahead of his time and is sadly missed. Bruce Lee was not a champion but still one of the worlds greatest martial artists. Muay Thai is the best striking art for competitive mixed martial arts. The science of the 8 limbs, strikes with elbows, punches, knees and kick - these relate to the strikes of Thai boxing and its weapons. Used correctly the same weapons can be used as a defence. I like Muay Thai others my like Gung Fu. Remember we are dealing with self defence and competitive combat in martial arts. This is not a section on how to hit people or beat them up. Martial arts is for both male and female.
